Stuart James Knowles studied art at Salisbury College and Bath Spa University College where he gained a BTEC diploma and a BA in Fine Art.
For the past few years he has concentrated on the horse as subject and has achieved an intensity of portrayal which is powerful and highly individual.
“In my paintings I examine man’s relationship with the horse. The horse has cultural, religious and mythological significance as an image of strength, power and eroticism. Today it symbolises the link between the modern scientific and industrial world and the old order of nature. In my work I hope to capture the essence of the beast and reflect its influence in society.”
